2016/2017 Season Tryouts

To all incoming and returning players and parents:

Please save the following dates for the 2016/2017 OPRF hockey season clinics and tryouts, held at Ridgeland Commons, Paul Hruby Ice Arena:

• Sunday 8/28: 1:30-3:00p
• Monday 8/29: 5:30-7:00p
• Tuesday 8/30: 800-9:30p
• Wednesday 8/31: 5:30-7:00p
• Thursday 9/1: 5:30-7:00 pm

Please arrive at the rink one hour before each ice slot.

The cost per player is $200 and the fee must be paid-in-full before a player can take the ice for clinics or tryouts.  This tryout fee is not credited towards the annual dues should the player make a team. Checks should be made payable to the OPRF Hockey Club.

Player registration is now open. See registration link below.

Your player is also required to have the following items complete to be able to participate in tryouts:

• A current USA Hockey registration number for the 2016-2017 season.
• A completed 2016-2017 IHSA pre-participation physical exam form (available here http://www.oprfhs.org/athletics/documents/IHSAPre-participationExamForm.pdf ).

The first two days of tryouts focus on skill-building drills. The last three days are held in competitive-play tryout format

As we continue to build and strengthen our program at both the Varsity and JV levels, it is important to note that the tryouts and final team selections will be highly competitive. There are no guaranteed positions. All roster spots are open to all players trying outThis means that having held an OPRF Hockey roster position last year does not guarantee a roster spot this year.

We look forward to seeing you at tryouts!

Free Cardiac Screenings for OPRF High School Students This Fall

Young Hearts for Life (YH4L) will bring its Cardiac Screening Program to Oak Park River Forest High School on October 27, 2016. Edward-Elmhurst Healthcare is making the screenings available free-of-charge to all students whose parents or guardians register online.

Each week, sudden cardiac death claims the lives of more than 60 young adults in the United States. A simple electrocardiogram (ECG) can detect serious heart conditions, including Long QT Syndrome. YH4L will use ECG results to screen students for a specific heart condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or HCM. All parents and guardians will be notified of results via confidential email.

Visit www.YH4L.org to register a student (or students) for a FREE screening. Select Registration & Events from the dropdown menu and click on Registration and Results. Access the Chicago Metropolitan Region to complete the permission and registration sheets.

YH4L has screened over 150,000 students throughout northern Illinois. It’s recommended that teens and young adults receive cardiac screenings every 2 years.

Call for Parent Volunteers

Help from community volunteers is needed to make this event a success. YH4L expects to screen more than 2,500 students at OPRFHS this fall! Volunteers will be needed for a variety of tasks on October 27. Mandatory training is scheduled for October 26 at the high school.

Adult volunteers can register for training and screening time slots at VolunteerSpot. Please consider joining YH4L for the entire day on October 27.
