Free Cardiac Screenings for OPRF High School Students This Fall

Young Hearts for Life (YH4L) will bring its Cardiac Screening Program to Oak Park River Forest High School on October 27, 2016. Edward-Elmhurst Healthcare is making the screenings available free-of-charge to all students whose parents or guardians register online.

Each week, sudden cardiac death claims the lives of more than 60 young adults in the United States. A simple electrocardiogram (ECG) can detect serious heart conditions, including Long QT Syndrome. YH4L will use ECG results to screen students for a specific heart condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or HCM. All parents and guardians will be notified of results via confidential email.

Visit www.YH4L.org to register a student (or students) for a FREE screening. Select Registration & Events from the dropdown menu and click on Registration and Results. Access the Chicago Metropolitan Region to complete the permission and registration sheets.

YH4L has screened over 150,000 students throughout northern Illinois. It’s recommended that teens and young adults receive cardiac screenings every 2 years.

Call for Parent Volunteers

Help from community volunteers is needed to make this event a success. YH4L expects to screen more than 2,500 students at OPRFHS this fall! Volunteers will be needed for a variety of tasks on October 27. Mandatory training is scheduled for October 26 at the high school.

Adult volunteers can register for training and screening time slots at VolunteerSpot. Please consider joining YH4L for the entire day on October 27.
